Day 11

Day 11 saw us departing Surrey with the final family visit of our trip concluded.  Weather looked to be in our favor today with no rain in the forecast and the skies clearing as the day wears on.

Within minutes of our departure we were heading out of Canada and into the USA at the Blaine Washington crossing.  After a brief discussion about the extent of our trip with the CBP Officer we were on our way.  We made what was supposed to be a quick stop at what was likely America's most disorganized McDonalds for breakfast, and a quick splash of premium at the Texaco in Ferndale and we were into serious flower Sniffing Mode.

We soon ventured off the Freeway onto Chuckanut Dr. and Highway 20.  The route we are travelling until Vegas was all mapped out by a fellow Kawanow forum member and I can't say thank you enough to Kris as the ride today was nothing short of stunning.  This is the bridge at Deception Pass, Char and I spent several minutes at the roadside turnout here just soaking in the scenery.

After some more breathtaking scenery we found ourselves in Coupeville boarding the ferry for Port Townsend.  The $7.90 fee for the ferry was certainly a nice surprise after the $54 ferry fee to Victoria a few days back.

After a fuel stop we decided to get off the bike for a bit of a rest, luckily we were passing Potlach State Park right at that time.  We wandered the beach for a bit and spoke to a couple of the locals who were collecting clams, as well as another nice family working over some oysters.

Now traveling on 101 South, we stopped in a little spot called Artic, OR.  This little pub was as small town as one could get, rustic interior, a small puppy running around from patron to patron looking for attention and a real homey atmosphere.

Our stop for tonight is Long Beach, WA.  We rolled into town around 5:30 P.M., got checked into our hotel and headed out for dinner.  We ended up at Castaways Seafood Grill which I would heartily recommend.  I had a platter of Prawns that might have been the best I've ever had, while Char enjoyed some Clam strips.

After eating we wanted to walk off some of that food and started to stroll down the main drag of Long Beach.  Came across this beauty parked in the City Hall parking lot, I believe it's a 55 Buick.

Our stroll ended up at the beach, there wasn't a lot of traffic other than a few horses and the odd person.

Mileage for today was 481.6 km, bring our trip total to 3294.4 km.
